One Creative Day in Hoi An: A Simple Itinerary
Combine local food, a traditional craft workshop and an evening walk through the Ancient Town.

Hoi An rewards a slower pace. Instead of rushing between sights, build your day around a few meaningful experiences.
Morning: wander the Ancient Town
Start early, while the streets are quiet and the light is soft. Explore the old merchant houses, riverside lanes and local market before the day becomes warmer. The Japanese Covered Bridge and the lanes around the Thu Bồn River are easier to enjoy before the larger tour groups arrive.
Stop for a local breakfast or Vietnamese coffee rather than trying to cover every attraction. Hoi An is more enjoyable when there is room to notice the architecture, shopfronts and small courtyards between the main sights.
Afternoon: make your lantern
The afternoon is a practical time for an indoor, air-conditioned workshop. At Lantern Making Class With Lynn, you can choose a shorter decorating class or build your bamboo frame from the beginning.
The short class normally takes 45–60 minutes and begins with a prepared frame. The full class takes around 90 minutes and includes making the bamboo structure. In both options, you select the fabric and take home the finished foldable lantern.
Our workshop is at 57 Đào Duy Từ, near Hoi An Old Town. Walk-ins may be possible, but messaging your preferred time and group size in advance makes planning easier.
Late afternoon: slow down for food
After the workshop, take a break for an early dinner or a drink before the busiest evening period. Cao lầu, white rose dumplings and cơm gà are popular Hoi An dishes, but the best choice is simply somewhere that lets you pause rather than rushing through another checklist.
Evening: see Hoi An glow
After dinner, walk beside the river as the town’s lanterns begin to shine. You will notice their shapes and construction differently after making your own. The streets around the Ancient Town become busiest after sunset, so keep valuables secure and agree on a meeting point if travelling as a group.
A simple schedule
- 7:30–10:30 AM: Ancient Town streets, market and heritage buildings.
- 11:00 AM–1:00 PM: Lunch and a rest during the warmer part of the day.
- 2:00–4:00 PM: Lantern-making class, depending on your chosen option and pace.
- 5:00–6:30 PM: Early dinner or riverside café.
- After sunset: Walk through the lantern-lit streets and night market.
