A Relaxing Hoi An Activity for the Whole Family

Finding one activity that suits every generation can be difficult. Lantern making works well because everyone can participate at their own pace and finish with a personal souvenir.

Creative and easy to follow

No previous craft experience is needed. Our makers demonstrate each stage and offer patient help, so younger children can stay involved while adults enjoy the process too. Adults should supervise children and help them follow the instructor’s guidance around scissors, glue and bamboo pieces.

The short class is often the easiest starting point for younger makers because the bamboo structure has already been prepared. They can focus on choosing colours and applying fabric. Older children and adults who enjoy detailed craft work may prefer the full class, which includes building the frame.

A break from the heat

Our workshop is fully air-conditioned and close to Hoi An Old Town. It is a comfortable place to spend the warmest part of the afternoon before returning to explore the lantern-lit streets in the evening.

The class is also a useful rainy-day activity. Because the experience takes place indoors, families can continue with their plans without depending on beach or boat conditions.

A flexible pace for different generations

Children, parents and grandparents do not need to work at exactly the same speed. The team checks each lantern individually and helps when a step feels difficult. This makes the class more relaxed than an activity where the whole group must keep up with one fixed pace.

Allow 45–60 minutes for the short class and around 90 minutes for the full class. If your family likes to work carefully, keep some extra time free rather than rushing to the next booking.

A shared souvenir

At the end of the class, each person leaves with something they made themselves. The lanterns fold flat for easy travel and become a reminder of time spent together, not another mass-produced souvenir.

Tips before visiting with children

• Tell us the children’s ages and your group size when you message.
• Choose a time when younger children are rested and comfortable.
• Let each person choose their own fabric so every lantern feels different.
• Keep a little extra time available for photographs and packing the lanterns.
